I absolutely agree with you regarding all of the wonderful benefits of giving to “others.” Actually, as I view ultimate reality, there are in truth no “others,” because all beings are bound together in a seamless unity. To be generous to an “other,” then is much like transferring something from one’s right hand into the left hand.
In this regard, I heard a simple, moving story many years ago from a man who shared a major epiphany he had as a child in watching his mother pour a glass of milk for his younger brother. He said that he had the sudden realization that he was watching “God pour God into God to serve God.” Methinks that this is what we do whenever we give generously.
Thanks for sharing that George… children are so perceptive and it is amazing what they ‘see’ that us adults don’t! I guess we can learn a lot from them; as too, our wonderful planet’s creatures.
